Reasons Health Reform Would Be Beneficial

    • Health reform will bring the U.S. closer to a true, coordinated health care system. We need and deserve a solid health care infrastructure that serves everyone and promotes the common good.
    • Health reform will provide the assurance that individuals and families can get the health care they need when they need it.
    • Health reform will create healthier, stronger communities. Everyone's health is better when the community is healthier and all of its residents have access to quality medical and preventive care.
    • Health reform will help us create an efficient, effective system that responsibly manages our precious resources. Health care costs are growing at an unsustainable rate and will only consume more of our national resources if we continue to ignore the problem of the uninsured.
    • Health reform will improve the economy by helping us gain control of escalating costs and by more effectively sharing those costs across the system.
    • Health reform will help people get needed care by ensuring coverage is available and affordable — even if their job or other personal circumstances change.
    • Health reform will create greater access to and stronger emphasis on prevention and wellness to keep us from getting sick in the first place. Being healthy enables people to be productive in school, at work and in their communities. Healthier people also mean lower costs to the system and every one of us.
    • Health reform will help prevent insurance companies from denying access to needed medical care, helping to ensure that medical choices are made by you and your doctor.
    • Health reform proposals maintain important conscience protections for providers and institutions, which means Catholic health care providers can continue to deliver services in accordance with their ethical and religious directives.
    • Health care for everyone is a pro-life issue because it seeks to protect and care for all of us from conception to natural death including the unborn, the cancer patient, the person with multiple sclerosis, the young mother, the frail elderly and the dying person.
    • Health reform will help us move from a disjointed, expensive system to one that is coordinated, affordable, sustainable and fair.
